Introducing the Irrigreen Smart Valve
Week 4 of our Preseason Marketing Bootcamp was all about one powerful addition to the Irrigreen ecosystem: the Irrigreen Smart Valve.
This new technology extends the intelligence of Irrigreen’s digital sprinkler platform into drip and traditional valve zones—giving contractors more control, better diagnostics, and an easier installation process than traditional irrigation valves.
In this post, we’ll break down what the Smart Valve is, how it works, why it matters for your customers, and how easy it is to install and service.
What Is the Irrigreen Smart Valve?
The Irrigreen Smart Valve is a digitally controlled irrigation valve designed to bring smart monitoring and automation to drip zones and traditional irrigation zones.
Instead of relying on conventional solenoid valves with limited feedback, the Smart Valve integrates directly with the Irrigreen system to provide:
- Water usage monitoring
- Leak detection
- Clog detection
- Weather-based automation
- Simplified installation and wiring
The result is a smarter, more reliable irrigation solution that helps contractors deliver better performance and ongoing service to customers.
The Three Core Components
The Irrigreen Smart Valve system is designed to be modular and flexible. A typical installation includes three key components:
1. The Smart Valve
The Smart Valve connects directly to the Irrigreen controller and contains built-in sensors that monitor pressure and water flow in real time. This allows the system to detect issues like clogs, leaks, or abnormal pressure before plants begin to suffer.
2. Drip Tube Connection Kit
The connection kit includes everything needed to transition from the valve to a drip irrigation system, including:
- PVC unions
- NPT fittings
- A conical filter
- Adaptors for connecting to drip tubing
This kit ensures installers have the proper components to create a reliable and serviceable drip zone.
3. Drip Tube (Optional)
For contractors installing new drip zones, Irrigreen offers Netafim drip tubing designed to work seamlessly with the Smart Valve.
These lines are built with high-quality emitters and come with strong warranties against root intrusion and environmental damage.
Drip tubing is available in 100-foot increments, allowing installers to scale zones based on landscape needs.
Designed for Flexibility
One of the biggest advantages of the Smart Valve is its versatility.
While it’s optimized for drip irrigation, it can also power:
- Existing drip systems
- Emitters
- Bubblers
- Sprayers
- Rotors
This makes it ideal for both new installs and retrofits, allowing contractors to upgrade traditional irrigation zones with smart monitoring and control.
Built-In Smart Monitoring
Traditional irrigation valves give you one piece of information: whether the zone is on or off. The Irrigreen Smart Valve goes much further.
Leak Detection
If a drip line is cut or damaged, the system detects abnormal pressure and alerts the user so the issue can be addressed quickly. This prevents water waste and landscape damage.
Clog Detection
Over time, sediment or debris can clog filters or emitters in drip systems.
The Smart Valve monitors pressure behavior and can notify users when maintenance may be needed, long before plants begin turning brown.
Water Usage Reporting
Because the valve measures flow and pressure, customers can see exactly how much water their drip zones are using. This adds transparency and helps demonstrate the efficiency of their irrigation system.
Easy Installation for Contractors
The Smart Valve was designed with installers in mind. In fact, if you’ve installed Irrigreen sprinklers before, the process will feel very familiar.
Bluetooth Assignment
Just like Irrigreen sprinkler heads, Smart Valves are assigned through the Irrigreen app using Bluetooth proximity detection.
You simply walk near the valve and assign it in the app.
No Extra Wiring
One of the biggest benefits:
You don’t need separate valve wiring. The Smart Valve connects directly into the same cable line used for Irrigreen sprinklers, eliminating the need to trench additional wire bundles.
Zone Capacity
Each Smart Valve can manage 100–500 feet of drip line making it flexible enough for everything from small garden beds to larger landscape zones.
Serviceability and Maintenance
Like any irrigation component, maintenance matters, but the Smart Valve makes it easier.
Valve Box Installation
While the valve can technically be direct buried, installers typically place it inside a valve box for easy access.
A standard 14x19 valve box works well for most setups.
Filter Maintenance
The primary maintenance point is the conical filter, which should be inspected and cleaned periodically to ensure optimal drip performance.
Because the system monitors pressure behavior, the app can help alert users when maintenance may be needed.
Built for Smarter Watering
Another major benefit is how the Smart Valve integrates with Irrigreen’s automated watering features.
Instead of scheduling by inches (like sprinkler zones), drip zones are scheduled by runtime, allowing precise control over watering duration.
Auto-adjustments based on localized weather data ensure plants get the right amount of water without waste.
Cost Breakdown
While exact pricing will vary based on installer tiers and zone size, typical MSRP looks like this:
- Smart Valve: ~$190
- Connection Kit: ~$100
- Drip Tubing: ~$100 per 100 feet
A common drip zone setup typically comes in at just under $400 in materials.
For contractors, this creates an opportunity to add margin while delivering a more advanced irrigation solution to customers.
Why Contractors Should Be Excited
The Irrigreen Smart Valve doesn’t just improve irrigation performance—it opens new opportunities for contractors.
With smart diagnostics and water monitoring, contractors can:
- Provide smarter installations
- Offer ongoing service and monitoring
- Prevent costly landscape failures
- Deliver measurable water efficiency
In short, it’s another powerful tool to help your business stand out in the smart irrigation market. Watch the full discussion here.

The Irrigreen Smart Valve officially launches next week, and all product information, installation guides, and documentation will be available online.
TL;DR
The Irrigreen Smart Valve extends Irrigreen’s smart irrigation technology to drip and traditional valve zones, giving contractors and homeowners better control, monitoring, and efficiency. The system includes a Smart Valve, a drip connection kit with filter and fittings, and optional drip tubing sold in 100-foot increments. It installs just like an Irrigreen sprinkler, connecting directly to the existing cable run with no extra wiring, and can manage 100–500 feet of drip line per valve. Built-in sensors monitor water usage, detect leaks and clogs, and integrate with the Irrigreen app for scheduling and weather-based auto watering. With simple maintenance and a typical material cost of around $400 per zone, the Smart Valve makes it easy to add smarter drip irrigation to new installs or retrofits while creating new service and upsell opportunities for contractors.
